For me, it’s a challenge to ‘go big’. I’m so much more comfortable on my 5″ x 7″ and 4″ x 6″.  The same for walking into a big room with vaulted ceilings or a cozy one with lower ceilings. I choose cozy every time. Following the passing of my Ayurveda Health Counselor exams last week, I decided to ‘fly’ this week. I can’t say I ignored my art while studying for the exams, but for sure, my visits to my art lab were severely curtailed. I couldn’t hide the stress in my art either. This collage/mixed media followed my relief down the same path.

A veil is described as an article of clothing or cloth hanging that is intended to cover some part of the head or face, or an object of some significance. It is especially associated with women and sacred objects. If you Wiki ‘veil’ you’ll find an interesting plethora of symbolic veils throughout history. A veil is intended to show respect or space between the wearer and whatever is being honored. I’ve been taken by a more spiritual aspect of the veil.

Rev. Trish Hall (a fellow blogger) wrote a lovely post, “If there’s no such thing as a Divine Veil, then the veil that so many folks seem to cling to is nothing more than a human delusion that reinforces the sense of separation and disempowers people. It gives us an excuse to be less than our greatness, a reason to live small and avoid fully living and celebrating our boundless divine potential. I believe that it is fear of being all that we inherently are, of being responsible for living a life of pure potentiality, that causes us to cling to re-written old beliefs. Marianne Williamson confronted us when she declared, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.”

My friends, I dedicate this collage, “Veil”, to you, for contemplation of your pure, undiluted amazing-ness. Hear Oprah’s soul as she asks “What do you know as true?” – I say, there is no separation between the divine and our unchallenged beauty and ultimate creativity. ART ON!

  1. Thanks, Evelyn. You’re right. I’m going to set a goal of ‘going big’ once a week. I ‘worried’ the piece a bit but happy with the result. Thank you also for the kind words about the exam. You’re very correct about the relief. This morning….having it all to myself for the first time since the exam and teaching commitments….I read People magazine. And drank coffee…slowly. P.S. I realized that I hadn’t missed all that much!!!
